Principal Mechatronics Engineer

Senior - Principal | 32 - 40h | Beuningen, Netherlands (hybrid)

As a Principal Mechatronics Engineer at ASMPT, you will work on something that does not yet exist: a completely new platform within our latest generation of Advanced Packaging machines. This is not an improvement of an existing machine, but true pioneering. If you are passionate about turning technical complex ideas into reality and eager to make an impact, this position offers the perfect opportunity to apply your skills.

Your work will focus on integrating advanced mechatronics, real-time control, and metrology solutions to meet the high demands of our customers in terms of accuracy and throughput. This position requires a high abstraction level, combining technical leadership, design expertise, and hands-on engineering to drive the creation of cutting-edge machines that will shape the future of electronics manufacturing.

You will work within a growing team where you can truly make impact. You will have the freedom to introduce and develop your own ideas, with ample opportunity for feedback and refinement from our team. You will work closely with our colleagues in Singapore and Hong Kong, as well as with external development partners in the Netherlands. Together we form the driving force behind machines that are deployed worldwide in high-tech industries.

Key Responsibilities:

As a Principal Mechatronics Engineer, you own the end-to-end mechatronic system architecture and ensure that performance is predictable, realizable, and scalable. Your efforts are instrumental in achieving high throughput while maintaining ultra precise die placement accuracy.

  • Define and decompose system architecture into mechatronic sub-functions and derive quantitative motion, control and metrology requirements (e.g., bandwidth, settling time, stiffness, vibration, latency, sensor resolution).
  • Define and validate performance budgets across mechanics, control, and metrology domains.
  • Define and guide simulation approaches, control strategies, and metrology concepts to ensure performance budgets are achieved.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to develop functional modules and ensure alignment with ASMPT teams in Singapore and Hong Kong.
  • Enable the testing and integration of machine prototypes and first production units. Ensure machines meet performance specifications during initial production.
  • Guide and mentor junior engineers as the team expands.
  • Work closely with teams in Beuningen, Singapore, and Hong Kong, and collaborate with external Dutch engineering partners for co-development and production.
  • Occasional international travel to collaborate with product development centres in Asia and development partners in Europe.

THIS IS YOU

  • Master’s degree in Mechatronics, or potentially a PhD or PDEng in the field.
  • 10+ years of industry experience in high-tech machine development, ideally in the semiconductor industry.
  • Proven expertise in mechatronics, real-time control, and metrology, specifically within the high-precision motion systems (nanometer domain).
  • A multidisciplinary thinker with an open-minded approach, excelling in communication and collaboration across various technical domains.
  • You are self-starting person and enjoy balancing system-level thinking with hands-on engineering.
  • Strong ability to work effectively in teams while also being capable of independently driving technical solutions and initiatives.
  • Fluent in English and Dutch.

The position level (Senior or Principal) will be determined based on your experience, skills, and professional background.

WE OFFER

  • A full-time position (32 - 40 hours per week) at an international high-tech company, where innovation and manufacturing solutions are key.
  • A competitive salary, depending on your knowledge and experience.
  • Excellent employee benefits including a premium pension scheme, travel allowance, and more.
  • Opportunities for personal and professional growth through training and development programs.
  • A dynamic, collaborative work environment with friendly colleagues and exciting, multidisciplinary projects.
  • 25 vacation days and 3 additional days off.
  • We provide all the necessary hardware and software, including a laptop and phone, to ensure you have everything you need to succeed.
  • We like to think that we are fun to work with. Besides working together, we enjoy different activities with our team on a regular basis.
