Principal Optics Engineer

The Vision & AI department of our Center of Competency Group is responsible for the development of optical concepts and modules to support the global ASMPT organization. The direction of the research is partly driven by long term customer roadmaps and market trends. However, there is also sufficient attention for more fundamental research.

To expand the market position of ASMPT a new advanced packaging product line is being developed. This new machine platform needs state of the art solutions for alignment and optical diagnostics. Developing, testing and benchmarking those new solutions will be a key activity for the team for the coming years.

The Principal Optics Engineer will have a strong contribution to new ideas, concepts, and developments of optical modules. In this role, you will also be responsible for planning and conducting of experiments as well as the evaluation and interpretation of the results. You will communicate with development partners and selected global ASMPT product teams about ongoing activities and achieved improvements. The Principal Optics Engineer is functionally reporting to the R&D Manager and is working in a team with specialists in different fields.

Responsibilities:

  • Technological Lead in development and innovation on optics components and modules in advanced packaging machines of the ASMPT product portfolio
  • Optical design and optical testing for worldwide ASMPT product development groups
  • Lead end-to-end optomechanical development projects of complete optical modules, including supply chain and cost efficient manufacturability
  • Evaluate optical system concepts on performance and manufacturability, ensuring that designs can be reliably fabricated and integrated in high-precision semiconductor equipment
  • Communication with optics suppliers
  • Communication with external optics experts
  • Identify and overcome challenges in existing designs
  • Analyse experimental results and formulate technical and scientific reports to a high standard
  • Development and implementation of new optical solutions at different ASMPT sites
  • Building relationships in the Dutch academic network

THIS IS YOU

  • You have a PhD degree (or MSc with relevant work experience) in Optical Engineering or Physics;
  • You have 10+ years of experience with optics, opto-mechanics and development of modules;
  • Experience in the front- and backend processing in the semiconductor industry would be an advantage;
  • You have a pragmatic and hands-on mentality. Working in the lab is part of this job;
  • You have a systematic approach to problem solving;
  • You're a team player. You have good communication skills and you're customer oriented;
  • You're fluent in written and spoken English;
  • This role requires international traveling (less than 10% of the time);
  • You are a self-starter and can perform your work independently.
