Centre of Competency

Our dedicated Centre of Competence team works on innovations for the global product portfolio of ASMPT. This team works closely together with industrial partners on engineering challenges, assigned by the ASMPT Resource & Developement department. Creating long-term collaborations with universities and other relevant institutes is our biggest goal. That's also why we are happy to have welcomed different Master students in the last years.

Working on innovation projects at a leading Semiconductor equipment supplier?

Guido Knippels, our Senior Director of ASMPT's Center of Competency, looks forward to meeting you and answering your questions about all our MSc project opportunities! We work on both Ai & Vision solutions and Mechatronics challenges. Contact Guido to get in touch about this or if you want to have more information about our ICAI Lab!

Mechatronics team

Our Mechatronics team, led by Dr. Ir. Dragan Kostić, innovates in the fields of;

  • Mechatronics system development
  • Control Technology (linear, non-linear, machine learning)
  • System Modelling & identification
  • Dynamical analysis & stimulation
  • Motion Planning & Trajectory Generation
  • Embedded Software Development
  • Digital Twinning
  • System Engineering
  • Machine Health Management

This team assists ASMPT by active collaboration with different ETG and Product groups, student and PhD projects carried out in partnership with renowned academic partners, and cooperation with commercial vendors in developments of disruptive technologies. Also the Mechatronics team facilitates and organizes diverse technical trainings to ASMPT professionals at different geographical locations.

Ai & Vision

Focussing on the future of Ai, our ASMPT Ai & Vision team work together with both students and academic organisations at the forefront of Ai Research & Development.

Enabling production environments without human supervision

Industrial applications and innovation have the main focus in our Ai and Machine Learning projects. We fully support automized production environments with assembly equipment and visual inspection tools. These tools enable companies to achieve the highest quality in micro and nanoscale assembly, without the need of having humans in their cleanrooms.

Developing computational methods & workflows that process visual streams in a unattended way, that is what we aim for. Our R&D’s focus is on:

  • Self-supervised learning
  • Continual/curriculum learning
  • Realistic visual simulations for data augmentation
  • Automated machine learning

ASMPT ICAI Lab

The ASMPT Lab, a collaboration between ASMPT and the AI Department of the Donders Institute at the Radboud University, develops AI models for real-time inference, prediction, and control of high-throughput data streams in semiconductor manufacturing. Addressing challenges in advanced micro and nanoscale production, the lab creates new approaches for sensing-based inspection and control, essential for modern microelectronics with high 3D integration and shrinking sizes. By leveraging sensory streams from high-throughput optical and multi-spectral cameras, inline X-ray data, and encoder information, ASMPT Lab aims to enhance resilience and safety in chip manufacturing and improve the explainability of AI decisions, setting ethical standards and innovating AI solutions for the high-tech industry.
